ABERGAVENNY Women’s win over Port Talbot was a double whammy for striker Lyndsey Davies.
She celebrated her 100th premier league appearance with a magnificent hat-trick and topped it off by winning the player of the match award.
Abergavenny knew they’d have to be at their best to get anything against a side full of confidence and maintained the momentum from the first whistle to the last.
With a 12 minutes played in her debut game, 15-year-old Ffion David drove down the right before delivering a superb cross for Lyndsey Davies to latch onto for goal number one.
Lyndsey doubled her side’s advantage after 25 minutes with a calm finish. Abergavenny were now in total control.
Another debutant, Ashleigh Mackenzie, left her mark on the game with a yellow card just before the break ,but could be proud of her first game at this level.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first with Abergavenny looking dangerous in attack and solid as a rock defensively. A great ball from Kate Jeremiah found top scorer Laura Davies, who rounded the keeper before slotting home to secure the points.
It was left to the player of the match Lyndsey Davies to finish things off in style, netting her hat trick in what was an impressive team display.
Abergavenny move into the top three and face another tough game next Sunday when Cyncoed come to town.
