Abergavenny returned to league rugby last weekend with a win by the narrowest of margins against a visiting Cwmbran outfit.
Unavailability forced Aber make several changes to the starting line up.
Curt price made his first start at prop, alongside Ieaun James and Luke Wright up front.
In the second row Mathew Collins and Dan Beavan formed a new partnership with John hockey Rudi Lewis and Josh Hitchman completing the pack.
Rob Conick returned to partner Rhod Webster at half back, Gareth Beavan and Matt Sevenoaks continued in the centre, with Will Williams and Dan Dunmore on the wings. Josh Parr returned from injury at full back.
The home side started the game well, keeping the ball for long periods and putting Cwmbran under continuous pressure which eventually resulted in Aber taking the lead with a penalty by Rhod Webster.
Cwmbran came back at the home side, scrummaging strongly and putting the home defence to the test, forcing them to cough up a penalty which levelled the scores.
Towards the end of the first-half, Aber managed to take the lead with a try by Rob Conick, converted by Webster, 10-3.
Playing down the slope in the second half Cwmbran got their tails up and their strong forward pack were giving Aber a torrid time.
Eventually from a close range line-out they scored a converted try to level the score 10-10.
The home side responded and worked their way back into the Cwmbran half to win a penalty, excellently converted by fullback Parr to regain the advantage.
The away team once again came straight back at Aber and scored to take a 13-15 lead.
With time running out and the light fading, Genny threw everything into attack but the Cwmbran defence remained resolute until they strayed offside to give Aber a penalty.
Up stepped Aber’s young fullback Parr who with great composure slotted the ball through the sticks to win the game for the home side.
Abergavenny’s next game is away to Ynysddu on November 26. Aber have also been drawn away to Gowerton in the Welsh cup on December 10. anyone wishing to travel on the bus please contact the club .
