TALENTED players from Llanarth and Abergavenny cricket clubs impressed on a memorable tour to Sri Lanka.

Llanarth pair Hugo Caldicott and Zac Williams, and Abergavenny’s Eoin Shackleton were part of Monmouth School for Boys’ hugely successful pre-season tour.

Abergavenny batsman Andy Jones, the Master in Charge of Cricket at Monmouth School for Boys, praised his players for their mature performances.

Monmouth achieved three wins from six matches as 19 boys from last year’s successful Under-13 and Under-14 squads impressed in the challenging conditions.

Hugo starred in the school’s penultimate match against St Thomas’ College, Matara, as Monmouth chased the hosts’ 190-7 from 30 overs. Hugo hit an excellent 41 but Monmouth were dismissed for 159 in a 31-run loss.

Eoin and Zac both grew in confidence throughout the tour and bowled important spells. This experience will no doubt serve them well during the coming cricket season.

Michael Burger and Josh Middlecote struck stunning hundreds, while Sam Swingwood and Charlie Weldon impressed with the ball and outfielding respectively.

Wicketkeeper Joe Harris caught the eye of former Sri Lanka Test and One-Day star Romesh Kaluwitharana, and was notified of his selection for Wales Under-15 during the trip.
