Llanrhaeadr FC - 1

TOWN thundered through to the semi-finals of the FAW Cup in fine style with an explosive 6-1 rout against Llanrhaeadr FC.

The Town got off to the best possible start going ahead after only three minutes when Gwent’s leading Welsh League marksman, Richard Jeremiah, beat Llanrhaeadr ‘keeper Lee Davies.

This was just the start as Town blitzed their visitors with a Dan Jenkins brace in the space of two minutes, to lead 3-0 with under ten minutes played.

Llanrhaeadr scored themselves minutes after in a goal laden opening spell, but this was to be their first and only joy.

When Rhys Whiteman was first to get his toe to the ball in a goalmouth scramble, the visitors’ prospects looked even bleaker.

This was underlined in added-time in the first half when Jamie Laurent struck to give Town a comfortable interval lead.

There was no let up from Town in the second half as Jeremiah did exactly what he had done in the first half, and netted very early on.

As the rain continued to pour, Town’s biggest danger seemed to be from the match being abandoned, but the Pen-y-Pound pitch which had been spiked earlier in the week held out and Town, who, following the demise of AC Pontymister, are Gwent’s only representative left in this competition, will now face Queens Park at a neutral venue.

Queens Park are based in Wrexham, and play in the Guy Walmsley Welsh National Premier League. They defeated Llandudno Junction 3-1 in the quarter-final., and currently lie third in table, three points behind Chirk AAA, a team which got hammered 4-1 in Round Three of the Cup by Llanrhaeadr.

Town return to league action on Saturday entertaining Caerleon (2:00pm), as they look to regain lost ground on leaders Pontypridd Town.
