Abergavenny Women - 0

Cardiff Met. Ladies - 2

IT was the old tale of missed chances for Abergavenny Women on Sunday, as despite dominating the Welsh Cup quarter-final for long periods it was the visitors and current league champions Cardiff Met who progressed into the semi-finals.

The first-half saw Abergavenny on the front foot and a mixture of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and some desperate defending denied them.

In contrast, when the visitors broke after 15 minutes they were clinical. A fine header from Vasconcelos gave Cardiff Met the lead very much against the run of play.

Chances continued to fall for Abergavenny, with left winger Kate Jeremiah beating the right back at will, whilst Welsh international Amy Thrupp was a constant threat up front.

At the back, Charlotte Hastings made a fine save to deny Cardiff Met another before the break.

The second-half saw fewer chances but a golden opportunity saw Alana Murphy hit a rocket, but a superb save once again from the Cardiff keeper kept the home team at bay.

Abergavenny threw everything they had at the visitors but were caught again on the break late on when O’Connor scored to seal the win.

Disappointed with the result but certainly not the performance, Abergavenny lick their wounds and move on.
