Abergavenny Women FC travelled to Oswestry on Sunday for their first pre-season game and came away with a superb 2-0 victory against a side playing at a high standard in the English pyramid.

The first goal was scored just before the interval by 15-year-old local girl Eliza Atkins in her senior team debut. .

In the second half Gabi Hughes doubled her side’s advantage.

Manager Richie Jeremiah was pleased with the performance and the clean sheet. Looking ahead to the new season he explained, "Having managed to hold onto our squad from last season as well as adding quality to it is a big plus.

“Several youth players have also come through the system which is always pleasing. Competing against the elite in Welsh football is always tough but we always look to improve and set our standards high. Everyone at the club has high hopes for the 2017/18 season.”
