Abergavenny tennis club coach Jack Grayer was one of 23 coaches throughout Wales successful in their application to be part of the Davis Cup Legacy coaching programme.

On November 29, 2015, the British Davis Cup Team wrote their names into history by winning the cup for the first time in 79 years.

The Lawn tennis Association (LTA) in association with regional and county associations have set in motion the opportunity for over 13,000 children throughout the United Kingdom to have free tennis lessons over a period of six weeks and in addition receive a special David Cup Legacy tennis racket.

Grayer received special training by top LTA coaches including Leon Smith and Anne Keothavong during a fun packed hard hitting coaching course held at Bath University.

Grayer’s first programme of ‘tennis for kids’ was oversubscribed within weeks and the course started on Monday May 16. Subsequently Jack was asked to hold another programme for which places are still available .

The second part of the Davis Cup Legacy will focus on the actual Davis Cup Trophy coming to five sites in Wales.

The big news for local Abergavenny fans is that the actual trophy will be showcasing at the Eistedffod in Abergavenny on August 5 and will then be traveling to clubs in Rhiwbina and Llanelli, before heading to the Anglesey show.
