ABERGAVENNY CC 1sts boosted their South Wales Premier One survival hopes with a third win in a row at home to fellow basement boys Carmarthen Wanderers on Saturday.

The hosts were put in by the visitors and buoyed by their recent good performances showed aggression from the start, with Baljeevan Khalsa firing 57 and sharing a 104-run opening partnership with Olly Jones who fired 29.

Jones' departure (109-2) then saw a really good partnership of 99 runs for the third wicket between Morgan Bevans (59) and Jack Ryan (37) before the former was run out with a direct hit.

In the remaining 11.4 overs Abergavenny stretched their score from 208-3 to 305-6, with cameo knocks from Mujihad Ilyas (49) and Tom Pipe (34).

The hosts then needed to stamp their authority at the start of the Carmarthen reply and they did to a certain extent with Ben Morris and Josh Spies reducing Wanderers to 33-3.

A partnership of 161 for the fourth wicket kept the visitors in the hunt though, with skipper Gareth Thomas scoring exactly 100.

But 194-4 after Jack Ryan (2-34) took the key wicket of the century maker quickly became 239 all out as Ben Morris took 2-47, Spies 3-38 and Mujihid Ilyas 3-41.

The win keeps hopes of survival alive as they moved off the bottom of the table for the first time to sit just 10 points adrift of safety.

South East Wales 4 leaders Abergavenny 2nds won by nine wickets away to Crumlin 1sts after their bowlers dominated the hosts' batting to dismiss them for 93 in the 31st over.

Shunyu Sheehan with 3-24, Ed Loose 3-12, Lewys Wilkes-McCarthy 2-16 and a wicket each for Dylan Beaumont-Welsh and Joe Bowden did the damage.

Abergavenny skipper Ed Woolcott missed out in reply scoring nine, but fellow opener Will Eccles with 27 not out and Ellis Jones with an unbeaten 52 saw them to 94-1 to win by nine wickets in the 19th over, as they remain on course for a second straight promotion.

Meanwhile, the 3rds enjoyed a tight 16-run win away to Llandaff 4ths in SEW 10, scoring 215-7 in their 40 overs before bowling the hosts out for 199.

Abergavenny lost their openers early on, but youngsters Ioan Wallace (44) and Ted Jackson (50) showing maturity beyond their years pulled things back, before Chai Sanapala (11), Campbell Cullum (39) and skipper Steve Brown (31) contributed to a decent total.

Llandaff were 71-0 in reply, but the bowlers gradually got on top with Meici Jones (4-48) and Sanapala (3-28) doing particularly well, and Aber holding off a lower order rally to take the win.

And to complete a clean sweep, the 4ths enjoyed a seven-wicket SEW 13 win against Ponthir 3rds at Crickhowell.

After a good start by the Aber bowlers, wickets then proved hard to come by as Ponthir rallied from 51-2 to 108-3 followed by an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 103 to finish on 211-3.

Good batting then saw Satish Rohra score 34 and Maria Sheehan 39 before a magnificent fourth-wicket unbeaten partnership of 111 between Manurag Raju (83 not out) and James Forrester (21 not out) ensured victory with 7.2 overs to spare finishing on 212-3.
