GLANGRWYNEY 1sts bounced back from a narrow loss at Pontnewynydd the previous week to batter Barry Wanderers by 113 runs at home on Saturday.

A 100-run sixth-wicket partnership between Joe Bowker (50) and Nick Jones (74) accelerated the run rate and helped the hosts to an imposing 285-9 off 40 overs.

Bowker's half century came off 42 balls while Jones blasted his runs off just 35 balls, finding the boundary with three sixes and 12 fours.

Vic Phillips also scored 31 and skipper Michael Devoy 30.

Devoy with three wickets and Mark Waldeck with two, backed by single strikes from Phillips, Ryan Murphy-Sharpe, Kristian Gilling and Bowker, then dismissed Wanderers for 172 in 36.4 overs.

Their previous South East Wales 8 fixture had seen Murphy-Sharpe strike a superb 81, backed by Jones with 42 and Gilling 23, as they set a target of 219-5 at Pontnewynydd.

Jack Tod then took five wickets for 55, but they couldn't prevent the hosts reaching 220-7 with an over to spare.

The 2nds missed out by 120 runs at home to Malpas 4ths the same weekend in SEW 15, reaching 150-9 in reply to the visitors' 270-9.

Skipper Geoff Holmes fired 52 and Keiran Devoy 22 after Geoff Holmes had taken a superb 4-12, backed by James McIlroy and Colin Griffiths with wicket braces.

The 1sts face Whitchurch Heath 3rds away this Saturday (August 15), while the 2nds host Barry Wanderers 2nds.

Meanwhile, Glan Women’s 1st XI beat Blaina at home on Sunday in the South East Softball League.

Skipper opener Sally Stephens fired 31, Nam Wooton 17, Isla Thomas and Helen Devoy 11s and Ariana Thomas 10 as they reached 125-4 off their 16 overs.

Isla Thomas then took 4-24 as the visitors were limited to 108-6, backed by Ariana Thomas and Holly Binley with a wicket apiece.
