ABERGAVENNY 1sts' revival continued beside the sea at Penarth, as they skittled their hosts for just 66 to record a third South Wales Premier One win in a row and move out of the drop zone.

Winning the toss, they batted first on a scorched outfield and started well with Lloyd Sharp and Baljeevan Khalsa putting on 38 before the latter was trapped lbw for 10.

Runs were suddenly harder to come by, with 50 only reached in the 13th over and No 3 Jack Ryan then caught in the slips for six (59-2).

Penarth – particularly Aditya Singh, with figures of one for nine off eight overs – applied pressure, with only 38 runs scored in 16 overs.

But opener Sharp reached his maiden Premier One half century in the 24th over before being bowled for 56 (89-3).

Morgan Bevans and Mujeid Ilyas then added 59 before the latter holed out for 33 (148-4) with 10 overs remaining.

Tom Pipe could only add four (158-5) before Bevans was run out for a hard-made 30 off 80 balls (166-6), but the tail added some vital runs to reach 206-7 after 50 overs.

And Abergavenny’s opening bowlers hit their straps with Josh Spies taking three wickets and Ben Morris one within the first seven overs (24-4).

Ryan then bowled Singh (41-5) and quickly added another trapping Nick Morgan lbw (51-6).

And Morris next made it 53-7, at which point Penarth's top scorer was extras with 17.

Ryan and Morris struck again (66-9) and young Leo Ling was then introduced to the attack in the 19th over, taking the last wicket for no further score with his third ball.

Morris took 3-15, Spies 3-22 and Ryan 3-25.

The table-topping 2nds opted to bat first at home to Sully Centurions in South East Wales 4, but were soon 33-3.

That brought debutant Ioan Wallace to the crease to join Toby Smith and they put on 62 before the former holed out for a 39 that included seven fours (95-4).

Archie Eccles and Smith continued the momentum adding 89, with Smith scoring 58 before departing to a catch (184-5).

Eccles pushed on scoring freely, notching seven fours and six sixes, only to run out of time for a ton on 97 not out, with James Hrastelj on 27 not out also contributing to a splendid target of 260-5.

Abergavenny quickly reduced Sully to 43-4, but stands of 63 and 72 (178-6) kept the visitors in the hunt.

And needing 76 from 11.4 overs. they reached 263 without further loss, putting a slight dent in the 2nds' march towards a consecutive promotion.

Abergavenny bowlers shared the wickets with Lewys Wilkes-McCarthy taking 2-35.

Put in to bat, Penarth 4ths put on 84 for the first wicket away to Abergavenny 3rds and reached 238-8 in 40 overs, 12-year-old Ted Jackson and Campbell Cullum each taking three wickets and Dan Bowden one, plus a Jackson run out.

But James Morris with a brilliant 136 not out and the equally talented Jackson an unbeaten 75 saw the hosts to 241-2 with nine overs to spare.

The 4ths played two SEW 13 away matches in two days, but lost both.

James Forrester took 4-38 supported by Shino James (2-29) and Madeleine Powell and Sashank Chavali a wicket each as Mountain Ash 2nds scored 262-8 off 40 overs on Saturday.

But Abergavenny were then 168 all out in 34 overs, Sashank Chavali scoring 44, Mat Jones 21, Ross Hayden 18, Usama Ali 10 and James Forrester 18.

And a rearranged fixture away to Sudbrook 3rds on Sunday saw them all out for 63, Kai Witcomb scoring 22, Manuraj Raju 10 and Majesh Joseph 10.

Sudbrook then reached 64-3 in the 16th over, Maria Sheehan, Oliver Hobbs and Dinto Pappachan taking the wickets.

This Saturday's fixtures are – Abergavenny 1sts v Cardiff 1sts, Whitchurch Heath 2nds v Abergavenny 2nds, Abertillery Town 1sts v Abergavenny 3rds, Abergavenny 4ths v Whitchurch Heath 4ths.
