ABERGAVENNY Bowls Club and the Auberge Bar and Restaurant are getting shirty with one another in the best possible way.
The pair have struck up an exciting sponsorship deal together.
Over a two year period the Auberge will become the main sponsor of the club. They will provide a new club playing shirt and support a very special ‘new member’ initiative.
This agreement is thought to be one of the biggest for a bowls club in Wales and will add to the impetus already generated as a result of the recent Community Chest grant and the sponsorship received from Christie Residential.
This will be the first venture into sponsorship by the Auberge who see it as a great opportunity to support a local club.
Both ladies and mens teams play competitive league matches on a weekly basis and the new mixed team fixtures will add greatly to the opportunity for new members to improve their skills in a competitive but friendly environment.
The Auberge sponsorship will play a big part in ensuring the success of the clubs aim to attract more players to take part in the increased fixture programme, especially younger players.
An Auberge spokesperson explained, “We felt we wanted to be part of the exciting developments at the club. A number of club members visit The Auberge on a regular basis so it was a natural progression for us to support them and the local community.”
Club Captain Gethin Hill added, “We are really excited at the opportunities this sponsorship presents to us. All support is greatly appreciated but this arrangement with the Auberge is very special indeed. 2018 will see the launch of a new club shirt for the men and the ladies at the club and hopefully we can do justice to the faith shown with this generous sponsorship.
“I am particularly looking forward to what will be a groundbreaking announcement on the new membership initiative which the Auberge is keen to introduce.
“Our recent Community Chest Grant supported the training of six new bowls coaches, qualified first aiders and state of the art coaching equipment, so we are really looking forward to the coming season.”
Arrangements for the club’s new ‘mixed team’ are well in hand with 10 fixtures already agreed for the new season including an exciting match against a touring team from Basingstoke.
