ABERGAVENNY Bowls Club started the week with the good news that the Ladies had won the South Wales and Monmouthshire Mary Wardle League for the second year running.

Then on Wednesday, they managed to complete their club finals when the Triples Competition was held.

In an extremely close game Mary Evans, Ian McCuish and Rob Poynter came out as victors against Sue Pritchard, Gordon King and Peter Beynon 20-16, with Mary claiming her fourth title of the year.

The Gwent BL team then played their last league game of the season at home against Cwmbran Park on Saturday and ran out 50-44 winners.

Richard Richards, Stephen Williams, Roger Griffiths and Gerald Parry lost the first six ends and only got onto the scoreboard on the seventh end to trail 7-1.

Steady scoring saw them level at 8-8 though on the 10th end before going on to win 19-12.

Dave Hill, Jimmy Harris, Ian Turner and Ron Harris were having a close game and were 5-3 down after six ends but came back to be leading 9-8 after the 12th end.

The 13th saw them score five shots but then they conceded five over the next three ends to make the score 14-13 in Abergavenny's favour.

But the last two ends went to Abergavenny to make the final rink score 20-13.

On the rink of Mike McGonagall, Ian McCuish, Colin Hughes and Charles Harper it was a tough game with Cwmbran Park taking a 7-2 lead after six ends.

They lost a little ground to be 16-9 behind at the 12th end and at the last end the final rink score was 19-11 to the visitors..

Meanwhile, some Abergavenny Bowls Club members are on tour this week in Jersey where they are hoping for some sunshine.
