ABERGAVENNY Bowls Club toured Jersey last week with their first game a mixed friendly on Monday against St Saviours.

Peter Steed’s rink won 22-18, but Mike Collins’ lost 15-25 and Mary Evans’ 4-35.

On Tuesday the Jersey Indoor Bowling Stadium was the venue for a game amongst themselves and a chance to practice before the Indoor Bowls Winter League season starts .

Sun Bowls Club, St Helier, were the hosts on Wednesday and the tourists came away with wins on two of the three rinks.

Mike Collins, Mike McGonagall/ Mike Hayward, Lesley Radley and Mary Evans trailed 11-10 on the 10th end but responded by taking the next three ends before winning 22-14.

Jimmy Harris, John MacGregor, Jenni MacGregor and Mary Vale took a 6-0 lead at the fifth end and won 18-8.

John Vale, Sue Pritchard, Dawn Kedward and Peter Steed were 3-7 down after 6 ends but levelled 12-12 at the 12th end. But Sun then stretched ahead and won 18-14.

On Friday, the tourists visited St Brelades Bowls Club, where Sue Pritchard, Mike Collins, Rob Pursey and Mary Vale were 13-13 after 14 ends.

But St Brelades won three of the last four ends to prevail 21-14.

Jenni MacGregor, Jimmy Harris/John Vale, Lesley Radley and Peter Steed were 5-5 at seven ends, but missed out 15-10.

And Mary Evans, John MacGregor, Dawn Kedward and Mike McGonagall/ Mike Hayward, trailed from the start before losing 21-9.

It was another great afternoon of bowls which was enjoyed by all.

Back home, Sunday saw the East Monmouthshire BA Finals at Chepstow Bowling Club.

In the Rinks Final, Aber’s Rob Poynter, Mike Collins, Steve File and Denis McDaid played a close game with Caldicot until the final few ends, when their rivals pulled away to win by seven shots.

The Open Pairs Final was an all-Abergavenny affair with Gwyn Jones and Peter Beynon winning a tight game 16-14 from Peter Steed and Fred Mutimer.
