ABERGAVENNY mens’ team last game was an MBA fixture played away at Newbridge. They could win on only one rink and were consequently defeated by 98 shots to 66.

The victorious rink for Abergavenny was that of John Beaton. The rink built a six shot lead by the eleventh end, and then resisted a determined fight back by their opponents to win by 17 shots to 15. Jack Vale’s rink held a two shot lead with five ends to play but the Newbridge rink managed to overcome their deficit and go on to win by 20 shots to 18. Other rink scores were Matthew Vale, 20-27 and Gethin Hill, 11-34.

Abergavenny Ladies played two recent games. First of all they made the long journey to Penyrheol, near Caerphilly for a league game. Unfortunately the journey was not rewarded with victory as the won on one rink, drew on one and lost on the remaining rink, losing the game by 48 shots to 37.

The victorious rink for Abergavenny was that of Ceri Clark who won their game by 15 shots to 13. Mary Evans’ rink drew their game 15 shots all but the rink of Judy Belli suffered a defeat by 20 shots to 7.

The second game was a home league fixture when Panteg House were the visitors to Avenue Road. Abergavenny Ladies had a successful day, winning by 62 shots to 34. Sian Phillips and Judy Belli’s rinks held the initiative throughout their games to win by 19 shots to five and 28 shots to 13 respectively. Unfortunately, the rink of Ceri Clark could not quite match the other results and lost narrowly by 16 shots to 15.

Abergavenny also played a five rink mixed team friendly fixture against Brecon at Avenue Road. Due to the extremely oppressive heat, the match was played over only 16 ends. The Brecon team came out on top by winning on four of the rinks and drawing on the remaining rink. Rink scores were Gethin Hill, 14 all, John Vale, 15 – 16, Ceri Clark, 9 – 19, Mary Evans, 8 – 21 and John Whomersley, 4 – 2.

This week Abergavenny play two MBA games. The first of these is away at Bedwelty Park on Saturday and then they welcome Caldicot for a rearranged game on Sunday. Abergavenny Ladies have a league fixture at Pontyfelin.
