ABERGAVENNY played their second game in the Carruthers Cup when Standard played at Avenue Road last Saturday. They won on three rings to record a comfortable victory by 103 shots to 70.

Jay Griffith's rink held a two shot lead after ten ends. They then scored heavily throughout the remainder of the game, whilst conceding only one shot, to go on and win convincingly by 34 shots to 9.

The rink of Matthew Vale built a fifteen lead by the twelfth end. The opposition could not recover this deficit and were defeated by 32 shots to 17.

Robert Poynter's rink went through a purple patch, scoring eighteen shots without reply over five ends. The Standard rink then fought back but could not gain the upper hand and went down by 25 shots to 15.

The only rink of Abergavenny to suffer defeat was that of Gethin Hill. They were never able to recover from the loss of fourteen shots by the fifth end and eventually lost by 33 shots to 12.

Abergavenny play Pontyfelin in the first round of the County Cup on Friday evening. The following day they play Ebbw Vale Welfare in the Carruthers Cup at Avenue Road and travel to Ebbw Vale for a GBL game against the same club.
