Abergavenny CC's Second XI kept their winning streak very much alive with an impressive eight wicket win against Radyr. Radyr won the toss and elected to bat first. Aber's openers Craig Whistance and Greg Spencer got stuck in but neither of them could get the breakthrough wicket. Captain Andy Timpson decided to take Spencer out of the attack and insert young Ryan Murphy-Sharpe (1-19) who got the important first wicket with help from the wicketkeeper, his father, Barry Sharpe, stumping batsman Tame for 24. Whistance (2-29) eventually secured a couple of well-deserved wickets, removing Williams for 13 and Ford first ball. Captain Timpson (2-29) replaced Whistance and quickly removed opening batsman Skirrow for a well fought 34, before picking off Tyler for 25. Both wickets were brilliantly caught by Chaitanya Sanapala fielding on the boundary at deep mid-off. Meanwhile at the Avenue Road end of the ground young second team off spin bowler Matt Knight first picked up the wicket of Clode for seven runs who was caught by a stunning one handed catch by Gary Thomas. Richards was caught behind by Sharpe for seven. Sharpe was again involved with the next wicket stumping Morgan for 11,again off Knight's bowling. Knight (4-17) picked up his final wicket, Razzaq, caught by Gareth Powell at mid-off for two runs. Radyr finished their innings 145 all out. Aber's opening pair of Gary Thomas and Barry Sharpe made light work of the total. Both played with an aggressive manner and combined brilliant shots with great running between the wickets. With the score on 101 Thomas was bowled by Richards for a very helpful 46, putting on a very impressive 101 run partnership with Sharpe. Sharpe finished up on 65 not out hitting 10 fours in a magnificent innings which will hopefully kick-start his season with the bat. Young Lewis Holley was bowled for 13 after attempting to cut the ball but bottom edging it onto his stumps, putting on a 39 run partnership with Sharpe. With only six runs needed to win Chaitanya Sanapala joined Sharpe at the crease blocking out the rest of the over leaving Sharpe to hit the winning runs with two glorious shots for four. Abergavenny won with 10 overs to spare and will look to carry this excellent form into next week's journey to Lisvane.
