IT was a disappointing result for Abergavenny squash club's 'B' team who lost by five matches to love, although it was to league leaders Cardiff Vets.
The match was actually closer than the result suggests, as the top three matches were keenly contested. Gary Lawrence was sorely missed, but will return next week. The team drop to fifth place on points difference, but are only 16 points from the top spot!
Mike Logan (1) lost 3-1;
Chris Phelps (2) lost 3-2;
Karl Whiteman (3) lost 3-2;
Ellis Lawrence (4) lost 3-0;
Simon Cave (5) lost 3-0.
The 'A' team suffered their heaviest defeat of the season to the league leaders St Mellons, losing by five matches to love. In mitigation, the team was hampered by the absence of Lewys Hurst, who had a fine excuse as he was on his honeymoon, and this affected the balance of the team, who now drop to fifth place. However, third place still beckons, as the team is only 11 points adrift.
Jethro Binns (1) lost 3-0;
Steve Williams (2) lost 3-0;
Chris Hill (3) lost 3-0;
Gareth Hughes-Jones (4) lost 3-0;
Chris Phelps (5) lost 3-0.
The 'C' team did improve upon last week's performance in that they did succeed in obtaining one more point. Even though they fielded their strongest team, it was another disappointing night with little else to say as they lost to Bedwelty 'A'. However, all is not lost, as there are still three teams fighting for the one remaining place above the relegation zone, and they all have to play each other. It is going down to the wire.
Tim Woodier (1) lost 3-0;
Peter Steed (2) lost 3-0;
Mitchell Lawrence (3) lost 3-0;
Jiwan Singh (4) lost 3-1;
Simon Cave (5) lost 3-1.
