ABERGAVENNY Netball Club are celebrating the end of the season having fought
hard to retain their places in their respective leagues.
The 'A' team have one match to play but have done enough to retain their place in the S E Wales Premier Division.
The 'B' team narrowly avoided relegation but a fantastic effort and great team spirit paid off and they retain their place in the Second Division.
The 'C' team, who play in the Wye Valley League, enjoyed a successful season too and were winners of the Wye Valley Plate.
A large part of the club's success is due to new coach Stuart Stenhouse who joined half way
through the season. The club are looking forward to building on this success
next year under Stenhouse's direction.
The newly formed youth team have also enjoyed success in matches against
local teams and youth ccoach, Rachel Jowitt, is delighted with the dedication
and enthusiasm the girls have shown.
The club will be holding trials to select teams for next season and warmly
welcome new players of all ages and abilities to come along. The trials will all
be held at Abergavenny Leisure Centre and are on Thursday, May 16 at 7.30
to 9.30pm, Sunday, August 18 at 10.00 to 2.00pm and August 22 at 7.30 to
9.30pm. Training for the new season will begin on Thursday, August 1 at 7.30
to 9.30pm.
In order to keep fitness levels up, the club's coach will be holding 'Boot Camp
style' fitness sessions on a Thursday evening at the Leisure Centre during June
and July, with details yet to be finalised.
