Abergavenny RFC - 20

Pill Harriers - 29

ABERGAVENNY entertained Pill Harriers at Bailey Park on Saturday and for the third week running ended up on the wrong side of a result which should and could have been so different.

Aber played the first half in monsoon conditions but rose above the elements and gave a terrific display of controlled and attacking rugby, scoring three tremendous tries through Will Williams, Owen Staphnill and Jack Bruten. One converted by Lewis Evans who also kicked a penalty to give Abergavenny a 20–3 lead at half time.

The second half was a completely different story with Aber taking their foot off the gas and a Pill side, which at half time looked down and out coming right back into the game.

The sun was now shining and it seemed to dry the pea out in the referee's whistle, which he used on many occasions to give the game a very disjointed feel about it. This slower type of game and Aber's lacklustre performance resulted in Pill scoring 26 unanswered points in the second half to steal them the win and leave Aber supporters shell shocked.

Meanwhile, the Abergavenny Quins travelled to Monmouth with 14 players losing 19-0, but Coach David James said he could not fault the determination and effort of everyone in the team. Quins rugby is a very important part of Abergavenny rugby club and more commitment is needed if this side is to fulfill its potential and be successful.
