‘Bad Girls’, adapted by Vicky Ireland from Jacqueline Wilson’s children’s novel, will be performed by Rareseed Theatre on Friday and Saturday November 11 and 12 at 7.30pm at the Melville Centre in Abergavenny.

Rareseed’s junior company – the ‘Seeds’ – have been working hard to bring to the stage this lively adaptation of the best-seller which brings the tricky themes of bullying and friendship to the fore.

Mandy is being picked on at school by a group of girls led by the very bad girl Kim, but meets Tanya, an older girl who has been fostered by a neighbour.

Mandy and Tanya develop a firm friendship as Tanya gradually provides a way for Mandy to free herself from the overpowering influence of her caring, but over-protective Mum.

However, Tanya likes to give the people she cares for little presents – which, to Mandy’s horror, she shoplifts! Mandy discovers that Tanya is a very bad girl but in a very different way from Kim and her cronies.

John Lovat, who directs the project said, “We decided to offer our ‘Seeds’ company the opportunity to tackle a classic text. The cast were enthusiastic about ‘Bad Girls’. We have some very talented young people in our junior group who I know will deliver excellent performances over the two nights.

“Rareseed have been going for three years now and we have managed to produce a wide range of really exciting work with both companies – Seeds (ten-13 year olds) and Shoots (14 years plus) - both devised and scripted.

“We are very proud to work with every child who comes to us and we do not audition. We provide a unique opportunity to young people in the area to experience the joy and discipline of drama, listening to our members and giving them a voice.”

Rareseed Theatre has a range of trained and qualified tutors who are all recruited from the Performing Arts Industries where they have gained their knowledge, love and experience of the theatre.

Tickets (£8 and £6 concessions) can be booked via the Borough Theatre on 01873 850805 from Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 3pm or bought on the night depending on availability. The play will appeal to all ages.
