YOUNG brother and sister Oliver and Erin Cox made colourful bracelets and rings to sell for the NHS during the weekly ‘clap for carers’.

The Gilwern youngsters, aged nine and six, had the idea to set up a stall in front of their house after grandparents Howard and Wendy Ellis sent them a jewellery giftset through the post.

As part of a school project, they also painted stones to sell with messages of support and to keep people smiling with cheerful rainbow designs.

Oliver and Erin, who both attend Llangattock CiW Primary School, said they were ‘really happy’ to help the NHS during the lockdown, and raised £43 which will be donated to Neville Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

Proud mum Kate, who lives with the youngsters and husband Damien in Winsford Grove, said: “They worked really hard making the jwellery and over four weeks they set up their stall every Thursday during the ‘clap for carers’ to try and raise the much-needed funds.

“They loved selling things outside our house and were really excited to do the ‘clap for carers’, as 8pm is normally their bedtime.

“They thought it was a little something they could do to help at this difficult time, and lots of the neighbours were interested and bought some jwellery, and the post lady did too.

“They also posted their crafts to relatives and friends across the country who have donated money virtually. It’s been a brillant effort by them.”

Erin said: “It took a long time to make them, but I’m really happy we could help.”

Oliver added: “We worked for about a week. The people in our street were really friendly, and I’m happy to raise some money for the NHS.”
