Yobs have struck again at a sports club, this time wrecking fencing around a football pitch.
It’s not the first time Mardy FC have seen their pitchside boundary vandalized, and club members are hoping to be able to identify the culprits from security camera footage covering Mardy Park.
A club spokesman said: “We really can’t understand why anybody would want to carry out such mindless vandalism to a facility which is there for the benefit of the community.
“This isn’t the first time this has happened and we are contacting the community council with a view to examining the footage of a security camera which faces the playing area.
“If the culprit or culprits can be identified the relevant authorities will be notified.”
Back in May the club suffered the same problem, when chairman Chris Price said: “It’s difficult to understand why somebody who is presumably local would cause damage to a facility which is there for the benefit of local residents.”
Last October club members also found glass in a bird feeder fat ball on the pitch before a game.
That followed incidents in Mardy Park of glass-filled buns being left for dogs to eat.
Professional dog walker Richard Millar was out with his Labrador, Bugsy, and five other dogs when the pet ran into a bush to retrieve a ball and discovered one of the horror ‘doggie treats’.
The dog was thought to have swallowed some glass shards hidden in the bun and needed treatment at the vets, but thankfully recovered.
