A Yellow weather warning has been issued for Monmouthshire, and the rest of Wales, the Met Office confirmed this morning.
Twenty-one of the 22 Welsh local authorities, including Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, and Powys are covered by the advisory notice.
According to the Met Office, an expansive spread of continuous and sometimes heavy rain will move north from the south-west.
The most persistent rain affecting the local area should clear by the afternoon, although thundery showers with heavy rain may follow.
The Met Office has advised motorists to be aware of possible localised flooding and transport disruption, and the possibility of gusts reaching 50 mph.
The chief forecaster said, “Some 20 to 30 mm of rain may fall in a three to six hour period in places, with as much as 40 to 60 mm possible locally through the whole of Monday.
The weather warning will remain in place until 11.55pm.
