LONGTOWN Mountain Rescue was called out on Christmas day to rescue an injured walker on the Blorenge Mountain.
The woman, from the local area, had set out on a pre-Christmas meal walk, but suffered a fall near the trig point, injuring her ankle.
The family group, realising that the situation was serious, contacted the police who called out
Longtown Mountain Rescue Team at about 11am.
Fourteen team members responded and were quickly able to get to the group. The team medics treated the women for hypothermia and a suspected fracture before she was carried by stretcher to Keepers Pond car park and from there transported to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.
Neil Hughes, team leader of Longtown MRT, said, “This was an unfortunate accident, which could have been worse, but we were lucky with the good weather and the group did the right thing in contacting the police as soon as they realised that they were in difficulty. We wish her a speedy recovery, and a happy, peaceful Christmas.”
