The garden visiting season starts here!  Once again Llanover House (on A4042 south of Abergavenny) will open its magnificent gardens to the public for charity, under the auspices of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS), on Sunday April 3rd. Llanover’s 15 acre listed garden and arboretum includes lovely water features and a circular walled garden.

The Rhyd-y-Meirch stream tumbles into ponds, down cascades and beneath flagstone bridges suitable for playing pooh sticks. Lawns for children to run on or play hide and seek. Given a fine spring, many of the spring bulbs and 30+ magnolias will be in flower.  Over the past few years a tremendous amount of work has been put into greatly enhancing what were already superb gardens making a visit an essential for all lovers of gardens.

The House (not open) is the birthplace of Augusta Waddington, Lady Llanover, C19 patriot and supporter of the Welsh Language Descendants. The flock of Welsh Black Mountain Sheep which she introduced, can be seen grazing in the park.

Llanover House is open on April 3rd from 2-5pm and entrance is £5 with children free. All proceeds go to the charities supported by the NGS, which last year donated over £2.6million to good causes such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Parkinson’s UK, Hospice UK and the Carers Trust (more details can be found at www.ngs.org.uk).   Delicious home made cakes and sandwiches will also be available.
