What would you do to achieve your greatest wish?
That’s the question VIG Theatre Company will be asking this month at Abergavenny Borough Theatre.
After recent successes with productions such as The Witches of Eastwick, Jesus Christ Superstar and, most recently, Avenue Q, this award-winning company are now tackling Stephen Sondheim’s twisted montage of fairy-tales, ‘Into The Woods’.
Originally written in 1986 and adapted into a Hollywood blockbuster movie in 2014, Into The Woods intertwines the stories of well-known fairy-story characters as they seek the means to achieving their wishes. For the baker and his wife, a much longed for child; for the witch, the restoration of her youth and beauty; for Cinderella, to have an opportunity to attend the King’s festival. But as the story unfolds and their dreams come true, we start to see the consequences of their actions.
Having been in existence for 14 years and winning awards through the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for Best Technical Production 2013, Best Individual Performance 2014 and Best Production 2016, this is VIG’s biggest production to date with cast members coming from as far afield as Cardiff and the Forest of Dean.
Director Emma Morris said, “The cast has gelled together so well for this show and they’ve really worked their socks off. They’re such a talented bunch of performers – we can’t wait for the show!”.
Into The Woods is being performed on Thursday July 14, Friday 15 and Saturday 16. Tickets are available from the Box Office 01873 850805 or via the website: boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk.
