Tributes have poured in after police today named a 44-year-old man as the deceased following a fatal road crash near the Steel Horse cafe in Llanvihangel Gobion, on Tuesday morning. ??Police named Phillip Mark Kembrey, of Cwmbran, in a statement released this Wednesday afternoon.
It is believed Mr Kembrey was involved in a collision with a van at around 10.15am on Tuesday, on the B4598 Old Raglan Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. ??Mr Kembrey’s family issued the following statement: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the tragic death of our very much loved family member, Philip Mark Kembrey. Philip was a family man and lived a private life, due to him being a such a private person as a family we are finding releasing this statement extremely hard.
“Philip tragically lost his life, but he did it doing what he loved most and that was in his words ‘going for a run’ on his motorbike. As a family we wish for our privacy to be respected at this time. ??“Good night. God bless, Philip ( father, son, brother, uncle and great nunky Phil) you’re now finally reunited with your beloved father. Sleep tight until we meet again.”??The tragic accident closed the road for several hours as investigators combed the scene attempting to piece together a cause for the event. A local motorist who arrived at the scene just seconds after the collision described witnessing the rider lying in the road while another motorist was frantically dialling 999.??Mr Michael Davies, who lives close to the crash site near to the Steel Horse Cafe in LLanvihangel Gobion told the Chronicle. ‘I also called 999 and gave as much detail as I could. The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive and then it arrived at the same time as four police cars and a helicopter.’
A police spokesperson said, “Sadly, the male rider of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. He can now be named as 44-year-old Philip Mark Kembrey from Cwmbran. Specialist officers are now supporting his family.??“The driver of the van received minor injuries and is recovering at home.”
Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are asking for anyone who has any information to call 101 quoting log 143 3/7/18.
