STICKING posters on traffic signs in Powys are putting motorists and vehicles at risk and is causing thousands of pounds of damage, the county council has warned.
Posters have been removed from directional signs and warning signs which have resulted in the signs being damaged and now will have to be replaced.
Councillor Gwilym Evans, member responsible for Road Safety, said, "Covering traffic signs with posters create a real hazard to motorists and puts lives at risk.
"Traffic signs are there to inform drivers of the approaching road conditions and to show them the direction they are heading towards. By covering up these signs, a motorist would be unaware of a potential hazard they are approaching and this could lead to an incident that could result in personal injuries or worse.
"The damaged signs will be replaced at the cost of the council tax payer but we will investigate any poster that has been placed into a traffic sign in attempt to reclaim the cost in providing a replacement sign."
