A ‘HIGH-voltage incident’ disrupted power to more than seventy shops and banks in Abergavenny on Tuesday afternoon leading to many businesses being forced to close in the middle of the day.

Western Power reported that an underground fault at 12.20pm led to the cut and it was two hours before power began to flow again.

Among those affected were Waterstones, Greggs, The Nationwide Building Society and others in the areas of High Street, Flannel Street, Market Street and Nevill Street.

A Western Power spokesperson told the Chronicle, ‘We would like to apologise for the disruption; thankfully our engineers worked quickly to identify and repair the underground fault.’
