The town’s Rotary Club has provided shelter for a community toddler group by donating a top-of-the-range marquee.

Abergavenny Rotary has provided the “wonderful gift” for the Community Kids group run by the town’s Community Trust, so the youngsters can now meet under cover in the event of a sudden downpour.

Freddy Edmonds, who runs the toddlers group at the Park Street community centre, said: “The marquee is a wonderful gift from the Rotary and enables us to hold the parent and toddler group outside during these tricky times when it is preferable to be in the fresh air.

“We don’t hold the group in the marquee but rather have it as a place to shelter from a sudden downpour.

“We stay outside most of the time and enjoy the puddles.”

Trust manager Marion Pearse said: “The marquee has allowed us to extend a welcome to individuals and groups who are not yet ready to venture inside, and has provided a welcome shelter to parents waiting outside for activities to end, in a sudden downpour.

“Having the certainty of cover and shelter now, means that the charity can plan more outdoor activities during the Summer holidays, too. We are so grateful to the Rotary Club for the generous support, and of course to everyone who attends the Annual Steam Rally for making the donation possible. Thank you.”

Rotary welcomes new members at any time.
