Mardy Tigers U16 - 1

Cardiff City U16 - 0

A big game asks for a big performance and the Tigers certainly produced one as they embarked upon the journey to retain the cup they won last season by beating Cardiff City 1-0 in Round Two of the U16's Girls Welsh Cup.

It was a tough draw against arch rivals Cardiff City who were out for revenge having lost their title to the Tigers last season.

Mardy were fired up and started strongly with Alice Morgan and Rhian Cleverly both missing first half chances.

Cardiff City grew in confidence but the Tigers defence held firm and the match remained scoreless at the break.

Stay patient was the instruction at the interval and although the visitors began the second half strongly, this game was clearly going to won by the first strike.

With 20 minutes remaining the winning goal came after some good work down the left saw Zoe Simmonds' cross find lone striker Alice Morgan free in the box. Morgan made no mistake this time beating the keeper from close range to send the supporters wild.

City threw everything at the Tigers in the final quarter but Sophie Foote, Tiana Cook, Shannon Cannan, Megan Purvis and player of the match Leah Lovering thwarted all attacks as the final whistle saw Mardy keep a tight grip on the cup.
