Blaenavon Blues - 4
Cefn Fforest - 1
GWENT County Division One outfit Blaenavon Blues made it three wins out of three on Saturday despite playing below their usual standard.
Playing at home against Blackwood village side Cefn Fforest, the Blues started the brighter of the two sides and produced some good chances early on.
In a reshuffled side that was missing influential striker Darren Harris who was out with a hamstring problem, midfielder Neil Cox who was out after dislocating his shoulder in mid week against Abertillery Bluebirds, and Andrew Johnson who was off enjoying himself at the Reading Music festival, Leigh Carrick stepped into the striker role while Grant 'Vinny' Evans took up the wide midfield role.
The Blues took the lead early through some great build up play, which allowed James Parfitt to cross into the box, and find Mike Waite who fired home for his second goal of the season.
The Blues dominated the first half possession playing the ball along the back four and making the Cefn Fforest front men work hard, but never really threatened the village side during the remainder of the second half.
In the second half the Blues came out very lethargic, players were on the back foot and they never attacked the Cefn defence.
However, the Blues finally found their shooting boots even though they never really got going! Club captain Steve White bagged a superb brace and James Parfitt chipped in with a goal.
The Blues player manager Chris Mason will be far from happy with the performance, but will be pleased that his side produced a 4-1 home win when not playing particularly well.
Elsewhere in Division One, the Mardy have yet to record a win after suffering a midweek 5-2 defeat at the hands of Spencer Youth and Boys, and having last Saturday's game against Abercarn United postponed.
