ABERGAVENNY U14's remain undefeated in their pre-season friendlies after drawing 2-2 with Cwmbran Celtic.

Going into the game with high spirits after last week's great performance against Penygarn, the Thursdays soon came down to earth with a thud as they struggled to keep up with Cwmbran in the first half.

Cwmbran played good one touch football, but thanks to some solid centre back defending from Ryan and Gavin and some brilliant one on one saves from Jake, Cwmbran were denied the early advantage.

Unfortunately for Abergavenny, Cwmbran Celtic went in at the interval with a one goal lead, after an Abergavenny player failed to close down an attacking Cwmbran forward who had enough time to pick his spot in the back of the net before the whistle.

With a stern half time talk from the Abergavenny coaches, the players came on to the pitch in the second-half like a different team.

Creating more chances and holding possession, it was Rhys Williams who broke the deadlock for Abergavenny when he managed to slot the ball in from a near impossible angle from a strike by Josh Stephens.

Abergavenny where quick to get their second after Alex Tilling was brought down just outside the Cwmbran Box and Rhys Williams stepped up to take the free kick, which he smashed into the top left hand corner of the net, with the Cwmbran keeper remaining statuesque.

2-1 up Abergavenny now started to believe they could carry on and win this game. But it was not to be as Cwmbran Celtic scored their second of the game, which was pretty much a copycat of the first.

Abergavenny had the better chances to go on and win the game, but the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

Nevertheless, this was once again a great result for Abergavenny against another very good team who last year beat them 10-0. A true mark of the progress the team have made.
