THE former head coach of the British Army rugby team has replaced Tony Edwards at the helm of Abergavenny RFC and will spearhead the claret and ambers 2011/12 campaign.
The close season has seen the departure of Edwards, who had served the club well for many years as a committed player and coach.
Backs Coach Mark Fleet will remain for the coming season and has now been joined by ex-Army coach Andy Price.
Former Warrant Officer and Welsh Guardsman Price has an impressive pedigree when it comes to rugby and oversaw an impressive period of success for the Army team.
Price, who has also coached the Combined Services team is originally from Usk but now resides in Caldicot and the club and players are fortunate to be able to draw on Price's invaluable coaching experience.
Price, who is on record as stating, "Rugby is a game for thinkers.' If you can out think the opposition, you can win," had a previous squad choice of 3,000 eligible players when he was head coach of the Army rugby team, so selection issues will not appear so daunting in his new role.
Having said that, 50 players turned out on parade to meet and greet Price at a recent training session in Bailey Park. So they now know the drill and what Price expects of them when the season begins in earnest.
