GLANGRWYNEY came in a close second in their Marches League Division Two game against Hay-on-Wye on Saturday.

Home Skipper Giz Holmes won an important toss and elected to field on a sticky track. Unfortunately the home side didn't capitalise and the visitors got off to a flying start putting on 90 for the first wicket.

The introduction of golden arm Tommy Grubb (4/54) proved dividends as he took four quick wickets and along with Phill Bowker (1/41) pegged the visitors back.

Some poor fielding from 'the Groin' meant a score of 160 soon crept up towards 200 although the reintroduction of Bowker brothers Ben (1/36) and Joe (3/49) and an excellent run out from the wall Richard Ashe left Hay on a more than respectable 195 all out.

New opening pair Tim Jones (27) and Mick Parker (24) started steadily and the introduction of J Cripps (5/15) sparked a patented Glangrwyney collapse picking up Jones, Parker and the in form Grubb (2) in quick succession.

This brought together Ben (58) and Joe Bowker (32) who started quietly but quickly increased the pace putting on almost a hundred for the next wicket.

Both batsmen fell in consecutive overs and this was the trend for the rest of the innings with Holmes (12), Nick Jones (5) and Richy Ashe (1) all falling cheaply and the 'Groin' were eventually bowled out 23 runs short of their target. Glangrwyney have now slipped to fourth behind next weeks opponents Llandrindod Wells.
