SOMETIMES the mind boggles at the lengths people will go to in the name of charity.
Take local youngsters Ellie and Arunn Jones for example, who have chosen to step into some flippers, slip on some snorkels, yell gung-ho! and dive, wearing full fancy dress regalia, into a dense, dank and unyielding primordial swamp.
Or to be more precise, they will shortly be wading like philanthropic hippopotamuss through 120 yards of thick and unyielding mud at the World Bog Snorkelling Championships held in Llanwrtyd Wells at the end of this month.
Goytre school pupils,14-year-old Ellie and her brother nine-year-old Arunn will compete in the world championships as they strive to raise as much money as possible for the Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice Charity.
The intrepid little snorkellers hope to be flushed with success on the day and not to get too bogged down in the field, or rather, swamp of competition as they will also be striving to break the junior world bog snorkelling record time!
Life-long supporter of the event, Mr Armitage Shanks told the Chronicle, I hope that on the day all the entrants loo their best and try to rise above the bog-standard in the name of charity.
