GRITTY distance charity cyclist Ed Beverley-Jones arrives back in Wales at the weekend ending his latest challenge at the summit of Abergavenny’s Sugar Loaf.

Endurance cyclist Ed, from Monmouthshire and know as The Pond Guy, is completing the final stretch of a 1,584 mile ride which took him from Monmouthshire to Italy’s snow-capped Mt Etna.

Last year the charity cyclist cycled more than 4,000 miles from Abergavenny to Morocco’s Sahara Desert and back raising just under £8,000 for Newport-based St David’s Hospice Care.

Environmentalist Ed, aged 44, based in the Monmouthshire countryside, makes his living looking after owners’ private garden ponds. He set off on his latest solo, self-supported trip at the end of October.

He will be back in Abergavenny, at the St David’s Hospice Care shop in Cross Street, on Saturday morning from 9.30am. Ed will then cycle from the charity shop to the summit of Sugar Loaf to complete his mammoth charity cycle trip which started there in October. Supporters are invited to join Ed as he summits the mountain.

Ed is raising money for St David’s Hospice Care partly in memory of a pond cleaning customer client who passed away.

He is aiming to top up his fundraising to reach the magical £10,000 raised for St David’s Hospice Care.

Kris Broome, of St David’s Hospice Care said: “What Ed has achieved is truly amazing. He has exceeded his initial target of raising £1,000 for the charity by almost ten times and is now within touching distance of reaching the magic £10,000.

“We now look forward to meeting up with him at our shop in Abergavenny and at the Sugar Loaf to celebrate his achievement and hear more details about his marvellous adventure.”
