RECORD crowds of more than 20,000 people flocked to Bailey Park last weekend for this year's Abergavenny Rotary Club's Steam Rally. Bathed in warm sunshine, crowds wandered around the park full of vintage steam machines as well as watching various events such as drama and motor bike displays in the arena. During the weekend Abergavenny Rotary Club was presented with a special award by Rotary Club International for their work members have done in the community. President of Abergavenny Rotary Club Anthony Davies described the event a "tremendous success," and said it was a, "superb weekend." "It's become a premier event in Abergavenny and we know that people come from miles around," said Mr Davies. "Last year's event was the most successful Steam Rally so far and this year we have had even more people attend. "The weather was fantastic and we would like to thank everybody for their tremendous support and hard work - the police, council and members of the Rotary and other groups and organisations who helped us." The amount of money raised is not yet known but it is expected to beat last year's total.
