Abergavenny’s Art Shop and Chapel is proud to host Yvonne Roberts in its latest monthly event – Conversations at the Chapel, debating the issues surrounding violence against women.
The charity event will take place on the 16th November at 7.30pm, coinciding with the Interational Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which occurs on the 26th November. All proceeds will be donated to Women’s Aid.
Statistics show that one in three women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Further reports state that one woman is killed by a man every three days in the United Kingdom – a figure that has not changed in a decade.
In light of this, over the last eighteen months, award-winning journalist Yvonne Roberts, has released a campaigning series of articles for the Observer exploring the matter of femicide.
She will be offering her invaluable insight into the current epidemic of male violence that we find ourselves in.
Both Ms Roberts and Alastair Laurence will also engage with the audience as members of the public will have an opportunity to present their opinions and debates.
Police officers and teachers will be amongst some of the many speakers who will be talking about tackling the subject of violence against women and how they plan to go forward in the future.
Conversations at the Chapel have proven to be a very popular series with last month’s event – the recent history of Wales – being a sell-out event..
As a result of the pandemic the number of survivors to domestic violence has only grown. This event not only gives people the chance to talk about their experiences and views, but actively show their support and awareness.
