DRIVERS from Abergavenny's slot car club returned triumphant from the inaugural slot rally Isle of Man after winning three of the six classes.

Round one of the slot rally GB Championship 2011 was held at the Glen Helen hotel on the TT course, featuring ten special stages copied from the 1:1 counterparts with classic names like Druidale and Staarvey and a specially constructed track featuring part of the world famous TT Grandstand complete with scoreboards.

Wye Valley Slot car club chairman Phil Barry took the Classic class by just 3.2 hard fought seconds with his Powerslot Opel GT, while Russell Powell and his Mitsubishi Evo battled for the win in the WRC modern class by just three tenths of a second from local hot shot Steve Morrow`s Subaru.

Barry pulverised the modified class opposition with a one minute and six seconds win with the iconic Lancia Stratos over islander Mike Bus and his Nissan 260Z.

Powell just missed out on another class win in the hotly contested Super Sixteen Hundred by just 5.4 seconds to Farnham's Gareth Jex but earned 22 valuable championship points.

Members from the home of slot car racing in South Wales are now preparing for round two held in Wolverhampton on March 27 and further information can be found on the club's website - http://www.aberstone.webs.com">www.aberstone.webs.com
