Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is investing £400,000 in a 16-week scheme to improve the sewerage network and deliver environmental benefits in Brynmawr.

The scheme will remove rainwater from the sewers, reducing the risk of overloading and flooding during very wet weather.

The work, which will begin on January 8, will mean laying 260 metres of new pipes in the vicinity of Catholic Road.

It will involve the temporary closure of Curzon Street - with likely closure dates from March 25 to April 12. This will be clearly signposted and access for residents will be maintained. Traffic management will also be needed in Catholic Road, Gladstone Street and Clarence Street.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's Capital Delivery Manager, Martin Kilroy said: "We realise the distress wastewater flooding can cause and are committed to tackling it. This investment will divert rainwater from our system and reduce the likelihood of it becoming overloaded.

"Whilst we are working there will be no impact on the wastewater service to local people, and we will try to get the job completed as quickly as possible. We know that our work can cause inconvenience, but this is essential work that will help alleviate flooding problems, and benefit the area for years to come.

"We will be pleased to explain this project in detail to local people and answer any questions they may have."
