LLANFAIR Kilgeddin and Llanover Primary Schools are working together in the water and on the pitch.
Mr Randy Lewis, of King Henry VIII School who set the project up said sharing swimming lessons and football classes was a great chance for the pupils to mix.
He said, "Both schools were ready to try the project and with the co-operation from the Leisure Centre I put a proposed plan together. The teachers were going to share the swimming lessons and the children would be put into mixed ability groups, this was done by the swimming instructor Mrs Owens.
"I then worked on the number of children involved and came up with years three, four, five and six that would swim first, the other children, reception, year one and two would come down the sports hall with Andy Beattie who is the football sports officer.
"They would take part in football activities for about 25 minutes and then both groups would change over. It was great to see the teachers sharing good practises and teaching mixed groups, the children enjoying their football. I can not thank everybody enough for giving the project a chance and making it work. I would like to thank Govilon Primary School who took up another swimming slot in order for the project to go ahead."
