QUINS - 20
GARNDIFFAITH - 19
A double header of home games at Bailey Park saw the Quins continue their Newport and Pontypool District league programme with a last gasp win over local rivals Garndiffaith.
The Garn broke the deadlock after 20 minutes with a converted try for a 7-0 lead. Further pressure from the Garn gave them another try and a 12-0 lead.
The Quins then dusted themselves down, and started to gain territory in Garn's 22. From a driving lineout Carlo Jones squeezed his way over and Keiron Skinner added the conversion to make it 12-7. On the stroke of half time, the Garn scored another converted try to make it 19-7 at the interval.
In the second-half the Quins asserted themselves with their strong scrummage play and were rewarded with a penalty try to make it 19-14.
The Quins were developing some good phases of play, only to be stopped on numerous occasions by the strong Garn defence.
After constant pressure from numerous attacks, the Garn were penalised for infringements in the ruck area which Jamie Pollard put to good use with the boot by slotting over two long range penalties which won the game 20-19.
Next week the Quins are away at Gwernyfydd.
