YET again proving age is just a number, 45-year old Goytre athlete Angela Jones has been crowned the overall winner of the Welsh Triathlon Grand Prix for the first time after 15 years of competing.
The seasoned sportswoman who won all age groups in Duathlon, Triathlon, Aquathon, told the Chronicle, "I am so pleased as I have been doing triathlon for 15 years and had my best results in 2011.
"At the age of 45 I have had to compete with girls over 20 years younger but I still managed to win."
Apart from winning the Grand Prix, Angela has also had a busy year elsewhere.
She was crowned East Wales champion in fell running for third year on trot in category.
Won over 19 road and mountain races in season, and also recorded her fastest 10K run of career with a time of 37.41.
Angela added, "I've just returned from Cyprus where I completed the four day international running race. The weather was blazing hot and the mountain runs were difficult but the scenery was fantastic."
The determined athlete who came first in category in Cyprus amongst a field of 450 international runners explained, "Who said at 45 you have to slow down. It's wonderful being able to compete at such a high level after all these years and still make progress on times you were recording 15 years ago."
On a final note Angela would like to say a big thank-you to Marie Kellet, "who maintains me with regular sports massage!"
