Local award-winning theatre company PuppetSoup have been collaborating with Abergavenny Borough Theatre to develop a new show, ’Arthur - The Bear King, yr arth WELSH’
Over the last few weeks PuppetSoup have worked with local and visiting artists, schools and Abergavenny Community Centre to research and develop this exciting new piece which will be premiered in Autumn 2016.
This is part of an exciting new collaboration between PuppetSoup and the Borough Theatre. PuppetSoup is also expanding its work at Abergavenny Community Centre to take puppetry and visual theatre to everyone.
The children at Llanfoist Fawr school, Llanbedr school and Abergavenny Community Centre have worked extensively with PuppetSoup over several projects to create new theatre with a community dynamic. By working closely with PuppetSoup many of the children and people in the local community have learned new skills and experienced the thrill of live theatre, both on and off stage.
On April 26 a specially invited audience of Llanfoist Fawr school, the Mayor of Abergavenny, arts professionals and community peers will watch a taster of the work so far at the Abergavenny Borough Theatre. Their feedback will directly influence the development of the second half of the show.
The founder of PuppetSoup, Fagner Gastaldon, said, "We very much hope that by producing work in collaboration with Abergavenny Borough Theatre and expanding our presence at Abergavenny Community Centre we can better connect communities to one another regardless of background, age or social demographics, increase theatre attendance and educate people about the wide variety of careers and pastimes in the arts. We want people to enjoy our shows and be involved in transformative theatre that can benefit the whole of society."
Over 350 children and adults have been involved in the project so far, and PuppetSoup are looking forward to bringing ’Arthur - The Bear King, Yr Arth WELSH’ to a community venue, school or venue near you soon.
