SIX candidates are set to contest the Monmouth seat at the forthcoming General Election on June 8.
Sitting candidate, Conservative David Davies who won the seat in 2015 with an increased majority of almost 11,000 will find himself up against Labour candidate Ruth Jones who took almost 27 per cent of the vote at the last poll - an increase of almost one percent.
The biggest increase in share of the votes in 2015 went to UKIP and saw candidate Gareth Dunn beating Lib Dem Veronica German into fourth place with an increase of eight percent.
The 2015 General Election saw an impressive turn out of 76 per cent in Monmouth - which at ten per cent above the national average, was described by returning officer Paul Matthews as a ‘victory for democracy’.
