Voters in Powys do not need to re-register to vote in June’s EU Referendum, Powys County Council has said.

Anyone who was already registered to vote (or recently registered) for the elections that took place across Powys on May 5 will also be registered to vote at the EU Referendum and will be able to cast their vote, if they are eligible to do so.

The council’s Electoral Services has today issued this clarification after receiving a high number of enquiries from people asking to re-register to vote ahead of next month’s referendum.

Jeremy Patterson, Electoral Registration Officer for Powys, said, “I want to reassure electors in Powys that they do not need to re-register to vote in next month’s EU Referendum unless their circumstances have changed.

“People who move home between now and the EU Referendum registration deadline (Tuesday, June 7) will need to re-register to vote at their new property.

“Those who are eligible to vote but have not registered have until Tuesday, June 7 to do so.”
