Monmouthshire Council’s AGM is set to take place exactly a week after Wales went to the polls to elect a new Welsh Government.

On Thursday May 14, the council could elect several prominent positions of its own.

Councillors also move to elect a leader of the council as part of the formalities and receive notification of leader delegates, including Cabinet positions. Last year, the Conservatives sought to reinstall Cllr Richard John as council leader. However, Labour’s Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby survived by just one vote.

No councillors were forced to resign after the Senedd election, as none of those standing, including the Green Party’s Ian Chandler, who lends his support to give Labour a slim majority, were elected to the Senedd.
