Monmouthshire County Council must improve its efforts at transparent governance, a watchdog suggested last week.
A report by the Wales Audit Office found the county council often failed to minute cabinet meetings, relied on faulty microphones during live broadcasts, and needed to make its documents clear and more readable.
MCC was praised for its commitment to broadcasting its meetings, but the report suggested further improvements must be made to ‘strengthen the transparency of decision-making and recording.’
Other recommendations included measures to ensure all decisions can be followed via a trail more easily; that recording of Cabinet responses to scrutiny recommendations be made more consistent, and that all relevant information on the council’s website be accurate and up-to-date.
The report found that relationships between Cabinet and select committees was ‘generally positive’.
