FORMER teacher Tudor Thomas has won the Priory ward for Labour in a two horse race town council by-election gaining a 12 per cent majority over Tory candidate Roger Fury.
Mr Thomas, who lives at Llanddewi Rhydderch, taught at King Henry VIII School in Abergavenny before moving to WJEC where he worked for more than twenty years as a subject officer for Religious Studies.
He and his wife, Jan now run a popular textile workshop at Weir Textiles.
His victory marks the first time Labour have won the seat.
